Week beginning February 15th
Dear Parent,
Leading into the midterm break it's a very pared back schedule of work attached for the next three days.
I will also be posting optional activities on Seesaw each day; they will be STEM related, PE and Art. I will be posting activities relating to the start of Lent for those who partake in Religious Education too.
I usually try to avoid print outs but this weeks Math's is on an attached worksheet,I will also be posting it on Seesaw so no need to print it off if your child is engaging with that.
I will host a Zoom meeting for the whole class this coming Wednesday(17th) at 5pm, just to give the boys and girls an opportunity to see each other.
I hope all of you enjoy the break Thursday and Friday from Home Learning, it's well deserved!!
Finally If there's anything I can help you with this week please let me know.
Regards,
Mr.Flood.

Dear Parent,
Happy New Year, unfortunately we find ourselves in this position again! Again this lockdown the work is in the same format so if possible try and print out the sheet above so the children have that as their guide. I have had contact from parents who will find it hard to engage with Seesaw and the Accelerated Reading Programme due to work commitments, lack of a device etc. and I just want to stress again all this work is optional. As I have already stated I don’t want to overburden people who are already under pressure but the following are some ideas for people who may want additional work for their children:
Seesaw:
For the week coming I will keep it simple posting some activities on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. It’s mostly revision work this week but I will also post two short videos on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in relation to the multiplication and division sums they’re doing in their books. From the following week I will be posting more videos that tie in with the new work that the children will be doing in their textbooks. Again this time feel free to send on any work your child has completed or anything they are getting up to that I can add to their assessment profiles.
Reading:
I think each student should be able to read for half an hour each day. A good number of students made great gains in their Christmas AR tests so it would be great if they continued to keep up this progress. For those who may struggle with their reading a great website is https://stories.audible.com which has thousands of books the children can listen to for free.
Gaeilge:
The children have their Bua na Cainte textbooks but the children probably may need a hand with some of this, perhaps if there is an older sibling they could help. The following is the work I would like the children to do this week-
-Monday: Pg 99. Cén sort aimsire a bheidh ann?-What sort of weather will there be?Describe the weather for the ten days on the calendar, the children have used all the vocabulary here so it shouldn’t be a big problem.
-Tuesday: Pg 100.Learn the poem Éire. Note tuaisceart is North, oirthear is East, deisceart is South and iarthar is East.
-Wednesday: Tuar na hAimsire(Weather Forecast):the children read the forecast for the first map of Ireland and then do a weather forecast for the second map. Finally they do their own forecast for today’s weather.
-Thursday Pg 102: An Teocht (The temperature) Read through all the different temperatures given and then go through the different temperatures on the map.
Maths:
It’s all revision work this week but the sites below may be of benefit to you if looking to do a bit of additional work.
PE: With the weather being fairly miserable you may be interested in some fitness classes for your child for the indoors. Donna Dunne is doing two free exercise classes for children every day of this lockdown at 9am and 12pm. The classes will be on her Facebook page’Donna Dunne Fitness’ and would be a good way of burning off excess energy if little people are stuck inside.
Finally if there’s anything anyone wants help with or is worried about feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please God this will be the last off the lockdowns and that it won’t drag out too long! Keep safe everyone.
Regards,
Mr.Flood.

June 22nd
Dear Parent,
As you can see the work schedule for this week is again based on creative/active based ideas so hopefully shouldn’t be too hard to get the students to engage in these activities.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all of you as parents for the hard work you have done for the last few months; I’m sure it has not been an easy time. Thanks for all the work, pictures and videos which have been forwarded onto me. It was great to see the children and what they were getting up to during lock-down; I have missed the class dearly and am really looking forward to seeing them in September.
I have tried not to harass parents but one thing I would ask again is if ye could send me on a picture of your child’s poster which contains a message for their classmates. It can be any message conveying how they miss their classmates or miss school in general. As I explained in last week’s schoolwork and the email I sent during the week if you prefer to not have your child in a picture that will be viewed by other people then just take a picture of the poster itself, you can include your child’s name on the poster if you would like. I had hoped to add a photo story on this week’s work which contained all the pupils’ messages but I have only got a very small number of them back so far so that’s not possible. If you forward me those on in the next few days I will put something together and share it with the class before the end of the week.
I am going to put together a video just to say goodbye to the class on Friday. I will forward on the details via email on Friday morning of how to access it. Finally if there’s anything again anyone wants help with or is worried about please email me at [email protected] .
As stated previously feel free to send me on anything your child has completed at home, their portraits or perhaps if they undertake one of the STEM activities; even if it isn’t work prescribed by me for the week, great to see what the children are getting up to on this last week of school. I’m sure everyone is very relieved to be getting what will hopefully be your last email ever for distance learning!!
Thanks for all you support and have a great summer!
Kind regards,
Mr.P.Flood.

Monday June 15th
Dear Parent,
As you can see from above it’s quite a different plan of work to previous weeks and hopefully this will be easier for both yourselves and your children. Again if you could print off the sheets above as well as printing off the PDF for Wellness Wednesday. All this work is obviously optional especially the baking on Monday so no worries if it doesn’t suit. I would however ask that everyone encourages their child to do the poster on Friday and takes a picture of it. The idea is that you as parents will forward on to me a picture of your child holding their poster and I will make it into a picture story that they can view to see all the people in their class. This will only be shared within our own class but if any parent has an issue with their child being in a picture in a public forum then please just send on a picture of their child’s poster on its own; you can add their name if you like or if u prefer not to that’s fine. If possible send me on the pictures via email rather than Seesaw as it’s easier for me to convert them from that forum. If you could also send me on one another picture of your child doing any activity (doesn’t necessarily have to be something prescribed by me e.g. hurling out in garden, working on farm etc) I would really appreciate it.
We as teachers have collaborated together to give only non academic work for the next two weeks but if you would like your child to engage in some sort of schoolwork perhaps they could finish off the last few pages in their Litrigh É Linn and their handwriting book. I won’t be posting any assignments or tutorials on Seesaw this week either. Maths is probably the main subject that children have lost out on through this period of enforced closure. Two of the main topics not covered as a result of this were Money(MM Pg139) and Time(MM Pg151). Obviously these topics will be covered when the children return to school but if you feel strongly you want to keep the academic side of things up for the last two weeks they could be two good topics to look at as well as revising division and multiplication of bigger numbers.
Finally if there’s anything again anyone wants help with or is worried about please email me at [email protected] . As stated above feel free to send me on anything your child has completed at home, even if it isn’t work prescribed by me for the week, great to see what the children are getting up to and be nice to put something together for the children to see all their friends. Hopefully the change in direction with work will be a welcome relief to all parents at this stage!!
Continue to enjoy this family time together, nearly there!!
Kind Regards,
Mr.Flood.

Rang 3 Work 8th - 12th June 2020
Dear Parent
I hope everybody is well. As you can see from the sheet above it is a much slimmed down schedule this week to reflect the time of year we are at. We are still looking at multiplying bigger numbers this week in maths so along with reading I would really like if the children focused their efforts on that. On Seesaw this week I will put up 3 short maths tutorial videos on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning in relation to multiplication. I will also post two assignments on Tuesday and Thursday morning. It was great to see all the work sent in last week so let’s keep it going as this will be our last week of fully academic focused work. I have also cut down on the amount of extra optional work this week.
I’m not posting any additional work for literacy this week. Instead I would like to encourage everyone to get involved in this year’s writing competition for Rang 3 and Rang 4. It’s an essay or poem and its title is ‘A Day to Remember’. The closing date for the competition is this coming Friday 12th June. We have some great writers in our class so hopefully as many people as possible in the class will engage with this. The quality of entries is extremely high every year so it would be great to keep the tradition going. Each entry has to be typed and then emailed to [email protected]
Finally if there’s anything again anyone wants help with or is worried about please email me at [email protected] . Feel free to send me on anything your child has completed at home, even if it isn’t work prescribed by me, great to see some of the non curricular activities the children get up to; baking, fishing etc. As stated above for the last two weeks the focus will be more on active and creative topics which I’m sure will be a welcome relief to all parents at this stage!!
Continue to enjoy this family time together and make use of the outdoors!!

Dear Parent
I hope everybody is well and enjoying the fabulous weather we’re having!!Our work is in the same format as every other week so if possible please print out the sheet above so the children have that as their guide. I have less work scheduled for the children this week due to the time of year and the weather. We are starting to look at multiplying bigger numbers this week in maths so along with reading I would really like if the children focused their efforts on that. On Seesaw this week I will put up 3 short maths tutorial videos on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning in relation to lines multiplication. I will also post two assignments on Tuesday and Thursday morning. It was great to see all the work and pictures sent in last week, they were greatly appreciated. As stated last week if schoolwork is a struggle I would ask you to prioritise your child’s reading and to encourage them to engage with their AR accounts if access to a device is possible. Please use the link below rather than using a Google search for AR reading as our own unique account needs to be accessed using this link. Dear Parent
I hope everybody is well, our work is in the same format as very other week so if possible please print out the sheet above so the children have that as their guide. On Seesaw this week I will put up 3 assignments and I will also put up 2 short maths tutorial videos on Tuesday and Thursday morning in relation to lines and angles. It was great to see all the work sent in last week, some of the videos of sporting, dancing and outside activities were also greatly appreciated!! As stated last week if schoolwork is a struggle I would ask you to prioritise your child’s reading and to encourage them to engage with their AR accounts if access to a device is possible. There will be no work this Friday, Monday and Tuesday as it’s our bank holiday weekend break.
Finally if there’s anything again anyone wants help with or is worried about please email me at [email protected] . Feel free to send me on anything your child has completed at home, even if it isn’t work prescribed by me, great to see some of the non curricular activities the children get up to; baking, fishing etc. As I have said before all work sent out is just a menu of work to do what your child can so no pressure at all, also I will reduce the volume of suggested work once we get into June. As I said last week all new topics to be taught during this time will be revised again in September so please do not worry about your child falling behind!

Dear Parent,
I hope everyone is well since I was last in contact with you. Again the work is in the same format this week so if possible please print out the sheet above so the children have that as their guide. Last week more saw more people engage with SeeSaw so I might add a few extra pieces on that this week. I will put up 3 assignments and I will also put up 2 short maths tutorial videos on Monday and Wednesday morning. Again for anyone who hasn’t yet forwarded on their email address to me, my email address is [email protected]. As stated last week Seesaw is just another option, please don’t feel under any pressure or that your child is missing out on anything if it doesn’t suit you to engage with it. As the weeks go on I imagine it’s getting harder to get children to engage with learning so just do what is possible but please do encourage the children to read as much as possible in their own time.
Finally if there’s anything anyone wants help with or is worried about feel free to email me at [email protected] .

Rang 3 Work 4th May 2020
Dear Parent,
I hope everyone is well since I was last in contact with you. Hopefully everybody enjoyed the bank holiday weekend and people were out and about in the beautiful weather. I’m sure ye as parents were as disappointed as I was to hear the announcement that there will be no return to school until September. I suppose all that can be done is to keep positive and have realistic expectations for how much work the children will do at home. Again the work is in the same format this week so if possible print out the sheet above so the children have that as their guide. Last week I started using a learning platform called SeeSaw. I have put up another assignment today and I will also add a short maths tutorial video on Wednesday morning. Again for anyone who hasn’t yet forwarded on their email address to me, my email address is [email protected]. I have had contact from a few parents who for a number of reasons; lack of devices, poor internet etc don’t want to engage with Seesaw and I just want to stress again all this work is optional, please don’t feel under any pressure or that your child is missing out on anything. It’s just to give people a different online option. Personally I would hope that children keep up with the ‘Home School Hub’ and after that as I have said before I think two hours is the maximum children should be spending at schoolwork these days.
Finally if there’s anything anyone wants help with or worried about feel free to email me at [email protected].
As I’ve said before I’m farming a lot at the moment so if I don’t get back to you straight away apologies but I will get back to you as soon as I get to my laptop and I see your message. For any children reading this message I am so disappointed we’re not going to get to finish out this school year together but just keep doing your bit at home and again do what your parents ask you to do. Keep safe everyone!
Regards,
Mr.Flood.
Rang 3 Work for week 27/4/20 – 1/5/20
Dear Parent,
I hope everyone is well since I was last in contact with you. Hopefully everybody enjoyed the beautiful weather we had the past week and spent as much time out in the fresh air as possible. Again the work is in the same format this week so if possible print out the sheet above so the children have that as their guide.
This week I hope to begin using a learning platform called SeeSaw. It will be just something very simple this week and hopefully graduate onto maybe doing some maths tutorials then next week when people have the hang of it. I will send out each child’s individual log in details on Wednesday and a brief explanation of how it works. To do this I will need your personal email address so anyone who hasn’t already sent it to me could you send it on by Wednesday morning please. Again my email address is [email protected].
I have had contact from parents who are finding it very hard to get children to do work at the moment which is totally understandable and I just want to stress again all this work is optional. Personally along with the ‘Home School Hub’ which I hope the majority of children are following I think two hours is the maximum children should be spending at schoolwork these days. Everyone’s home situation with work etc is very different at the moment so never feel pressured please and remember there is so much the children can learn at home e.g. baking, gardening, painting tree-houses and hopefully help you out at the same time.
Finally if there’s anything anyone wants help with or worried about feel free to email me at [email protected] I’m farming a lot at the moment so if I don’t get back to you straight away apologies but I will get back to you as soon as I get to my laptop and I see your message. This whole thing is really starting to drag for everyone now so it’s really important I suppose to keep everything as positive as possible, not to overly worry about schoolwork for now and have fun when we can.
For any children reading this message I really miss everyone in Rang 3 and can’t wait for school to re-open again. While you are at home it is important that you help out as much as you can. Make your bed in the morning, try not to fight with your brothers and sisters, listen to your parents and always do what they tell you to do. I’ll be in touch again Wednesday. Keep safe everyone.
Regards,Mr.Flood.

Rang 3 Work for week 20/4/20 – 24/4/20
Dear Parent,
I hope everyone is well since I was last in contact with you. Hopefully everybody had a nice Easter break and we’ll now start back into doing a bit of schoolwork again. I hope the work above doesn’t seem repetitive but I would like to keep some structure to things and hopefully get to finish the core books this year. My idea again is that the children will tick off each piece of completed work on the sheet if it was printed off and then the only contribution needed from you as parents every night would be to sign the sheet on that day just as you usually do with the children’s homework journals. We have been blessed with the weather throughout this whole ordeal and I would hope the children would spend as much time out in the fresh air as possible. Personally along with the ‘Home School Hub’ which I hope the majority of children are following I think two hours is the maximum children should be spending at schoolwork these days.
One thing I would ask each parent to do is to forward me on your e-mail address. If you could just write your name and whether your child has their Mathemagic book home with them I would be really grateful. My e-mail address is [email protected] If there is anything else you are worried about, also feel free to contact me and I will help you in any way I can. There is a difficult time for everybody and hopefully we will get back to some sort of normality in the not too distant future. Keep safe everyone.
Regards,
Mr. Flood.

Dear Parent,
I hope everyone is well in these strange and worrying times. The work above is all work I feel the majority of children should be able to do themselves without any contribution from an adult. I totally understand the pressure people are under at the moment and definitely do not want to add to that load. I’m trying to somewhat keep the routine of school going so learning their spellings, tables etc that they do every week. My idea again is that the children will tick off each piece of completed work on the sheet if it was printed off and then the only contribution needed from you as parents every night would be to sign the sheet on that day just as you usually do with the children’s homework journals. While it is obviously important to keep up the academic side of things the weather is fabulous at the moment so the more time the children spend in a safe environment outside the better.
Mr. Tynan has already put an extensive list of helpful websites on the school website for anyone who would like some extra resource. If you are time limited and would just like to focus on one website I would encourage everyone to set up a twinkl account which is free for the next month. It’s really easy, you just go to www.twinkl.ie/offer and enter the code IRLTWINKLHELPS. It’s a brilliant site and has endless resources covering all areas of the curriculum. I know leaving children on the internet is always worrying so it mightn’t be a bad idea to change the search engine on your computers to KidRex. Its really easy to set up and has a very extensive filter.
I’m sure the majority of ye have heard of the new ‘School on TV’ which will air Monday to Friday from 11am to 12pm. While we don’t usually encourage the children to watch TV the trailers for it look great and it could be a good way of regulating their mornings. A catch up part of the show will also air at 4.15pm every day. As I have already stated I don’t want to overburden people who are already under pressure but the following are some ideas for people who may want additional work for their children:
Gaeilge:
The children don’t have their Irish books and I know not everyone has Irish themselves but the following are some questions we were working on the past while that maybe even older brothers/sisters may ask them.
- Cad is ainm duit?
- Cén aois thú
- Cá bhfuil tú I do chónaí
- Cén scoil ina bhfuil tú
- Cén rang ina bhfuil tú
- Cár rugadh tú
- An bhfuil deartháireacha nó deirfiúracha agat?
- Cad é an t-ábhar scoile is fear leat?
- Cad é an t-ábhar scoile is fuath leat?
- An maith leat sport/ceol?
- Cén dath ar do shúile?
- Cén dath atá ar do chuld gruaige
Maths:
As I have already stated twinkl has excellent resources and I would say particularly for its maths worksheets. FolensOnline.ie is another great resource and is free to register for at the moment. It’s really easy to register for, just put in Prim20 when it asks you for your School Roll no. The children can never spend enough time on their tables and a good idea is for them to write as many different tables as they can in a minute using a table from all the different nos. Times Table Hunt worksheets on twinkl are very good also, they could be incorporated into Easter Egg hunt at home.
English:
Again I would stay with twinkl as it has lots of great templates and worksheets. We have being looked at ACROSTIC poems quite a bit this year so the children could have some fun writing some of those even one on Coronavirus! We were supposed to be doing letter writing this fortnight and I think quite a few of the children have the basic principles of where address is written etc. so perhaps they could try some of those, maybe write a letter to their favourite sports star to say how much they miss seeing them perform. Finally we have some excellent writers in our class so they can do as much free writing as they want, just try to remember all the basics; capital letters, full stops, paragraphs etc
SESE:
The children’s topic in Science this week is ‘Sound’ and there is some really easy experiments that can be done at home available in their books on pages 78-82. We are currently looking at ‘Life in the Medieval Ages’. There is a wealth of information on twinkl about this subject so perhaps the children could do a project about it. If you enter Medival Ages into the search engine on twinkl one of the first hits will be ‘Medieval Ages Resource Pack’. If you click on the links there is loads of information available to help do a project. It would be great if the children could look after these and we could put them on display when we get back to school.
PE:
With the weather being so good I’m hoping a lot of the children are being active outside in their gardens where possible. If the children need a little bit of extra motivation look up Joe Wicks child workouts. They air each morning at 9am for 30 minutes on his youtube channel and could be a good incentive for getting people out of bed in the morning! Donna Dunne Fitness is also doing a fitness class every day at 12pm on Facebook. Donna lives in Stoneyford and gives a shout out to the kids watching so would be well worth looking into. Donna has also offered to come to the school which has the most online participants on her classes when we return to school which would be something to look forward to. For the GAA players in our class the GAA will be launching a school home learning project in the next week so children can focus on their skills at home. The details will be circulated out via email to county and club secretaries in the next few days so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime everyone should be hitting the tennis ball off the wall, focus on how many jab lifts you can get in 60 seconds and practise throwing the ball off the wall and catching it in your fingers. Keep working on the skills so that everybody is match ready when the games come back again!!
Finally I just want to wish everyone well for the next period and hope everyone keeps safe. Again all this work is a guideline to help not to harass anyone. There is a multitude of other skills the children can learn at home and hopefully help out their parents at the same time be it in the garden or helping out on the farm at home. I really miss everyone in Rang 3 and am looking forward to seeing everybody hopefully not in the too distant future. Keep safe everyone.
Regards,
Mr. Flood.
