The Parents’ Association
We are affiliated to the National Parents Council.
The school has a long – established Parents’ Association which has given huge support to the school throughout the years. The Parents' Association has several functions within the school environment:
The Parents’ Association is not about:
● Decision making and management issues in the school
● Professional issues in relation to teaching and learning
● A channel for complaints for other parents
What do we do?
The Parents' Association is simply the parents and school working together in the best interests of our children. We have set up a page on our school website freshfordnsweebly.com.
We hope to regularly organize training/information evenings for parents for topics that are relevant to our children growing up in today’s world. Examples of such is Internet Safety evening as outlined above. As these courses become available we will send out an email advising of same and update the Parents Association page on the school website.
The money raised through our initiatives goes directly into improving many aspects of our school. We have provided funds towards books for the school library, new windows in parts of the school, recreation and PE equipment for the school. We run various fundraising events throughout the year, in consultation with the principal. We run social events such as 6th Class Graduation evening/pre-school graduation morning, and provide refreshments for parents and children on the morning of First Holy Communion. We run a Christmas Fair every year which proves to be a very enjoyable morning for all.
When do we meet?
We do not take up a lot of your time and aim to meet at least once per term. A message will be sent from the school to notify parents of upcoming meetings. The meetings generally will last for 1 hour and everyone is welcome.
● The Annual General Meeting of the Parents’ Association will be held in the first term of the school year. The election of officers and the selection of representatives will take place at this meeting. We encourage all parents to attend and would hope to have a good representation from all classes.
● The school staff representative and at least one of the Parents’ Nominees from the Board of Management will attend the Parent Association meetings to promote clear lines of communication between the Board of Management and the Parents’ Association.
